Roman blinds consist of horizontal slats that roll up into pleats when up and fold back to flat when down. They are usually custom made to exact specifications from high quality curtain material and are operated by a series of strong vertical cords. Roman Blinds can add a unique touch to any room in your home, as well as give you much needed privacy.


Most Roman blinds consist of a simple design consisting of two panels, usually drawn together at the top to allow for the hanging of the blinds at both ends. One side of each panel is then fastened to the side of a window, while the other side of the panels is left open. The space between the panels is referred to as a recess. These recesses can either be made into a circle with cutouts for the eye to pass through or formed into the basic shapes of both halves of a circle or half a circle, depending on the design of the particular blind. Either way, it is these recesses that provide a place for the eye to pass and/or become trapped.

Polyester or vinyl-based lining  :

Most Roman Blinds consist of fabrics that have been cut to allow for a fast and effective movement of the cord(s) into and out of the slats. The fabrics used range from heavy weight silk to delicate cotton blends and the heavier the fabric the easier it is to operate the cords. Some of these fabrics also serve to act as insulators to reduce the loss of heat within the room that they are in. Some of these fabrics also use other forms of stitching to add additional character and charm to the blinds. This means that even if a single thread is broken, the remaining threads will still remain in the same place and still not fall out. In a way, this feature allows the blinds to remain somewhat airy and give a slight degree of privacy to the space they are in.

The face fabric is what we see when we look at Roman blinds. These linings allow for air to circulate through the slats and to hold the slats in place. The face fabric can be made of one or more different fabrics, but typically it consists of a polyester or vinyl-based lining combined with a polyester or cotton backing. Linings can either be elastic or pull. Elastic linings tend to be the most flexible and pull down the sides of the blinds for added functionality.

Side Boxed Bay Roman Blinds :

Side Boxed Bay Roman Blinds is another popular form of Roman Blinds. As the name would imply, side boxed bay windows are very similar to the appearance of a bay window. However, the bottom half of the blind is simply rolled up so that it forms a window that is completely enclosed. While they may seem smaller than their boxed bay siblings, these blinds provide just as much of an impact because they are able to seal off the space within the window frame completely.

Measures

Measuring Roman Blinds is usually quite easy, as long as you have your measurements handy. Most manufacturers will provide a measuring guide complete with scale lines and so forth. However, if your measurements are far from the standard, you should make sure that you get a few sets of measurements done before deciding on the right Roman blind for you. You should also know that while some brands will label their blinds according to the size of the window, others prefer to use a different measurement system. All in all, it should come down to personal preference.
